PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the conventional problem of connection loss caused in the process of extruding and polishing optical fibers such that, in polishing the end face of a ferrule by the process, the periphery of the end face tends to be polished more than its center part, causing the end face to be machined in a convex shape, and that, with a pair of optical connectors abutted on each other at the end faces, the optical fibers in the center come in contact with each other, adversely leaving those placed outside to oppose each other with a gap in-between and resulting in connection loss. SOLUTION: After the optical fiber extruding and polishing process, optical fibers are repolished by an end face polishing process so that the end face of each optical fiber is protruded from the ferrule end face and aligned with each other. Consequently, splicing in close contact is made possible for the outside optical fibers when the optical connectors are connected to each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
