A method and apparatus (10) for modifying a shelving structure (2) including the steps of: providing an elongated thin base plate shaped and sized according to a shelf size and constructed to be able to lie flat so that it can rest on the shelves of existing video display apparatus (2); providing a first connection means located within the thickness of the base plate and accessible from the top surface or bottom surface of the base plate; providing a plurality of substantially planar support members having second connection means at a bottom end or top end which are complementary to or inter-engage with the first connection means to allow extension of the planar support members (16) substantially normal to the base plate; locating the substantially planar support members (16) in spaced arrangements alongside predetermined sets of first connection means having predefined spacing and angular alignment; allowing connection of the base plate and support members (16) by connecting together by interengaging or interfitting first and second connection means to form shelving apparatus (10) with sections above or below the base plate with required dimensions for a predetermined sizing of articles of a particular type to be displayed together either above or below the base plate.
