METHOD FOR PRODUCING OPTICALLY ACTIVE BUTENOLIDES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing an optically active butenolide.

SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active butenolide comprises a process of adding a specific furan compound to a specific aldehyde in a solvent by using a Cr(salene)complex expressed by formula (I) (wherein, Ar1s are each independently a 10-16C aryl; X-is a monovalent anion) or its mirror image isomer as a catalyst. Also the method for producing the optically active butenolide further comprises a process of hydrolyzing the butenolide with an acid.
