PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information transfer device capable of reducing the time required to transfer files and reducing the load of a network. SOLUTION: The information transfer device which transfers information using an FTP (file transfer protocol) is capable of either or both the compression of data to be transferred prior to transmission and the expansion of the data after reception. More specifically, adjustments can be made as to whether or not the data are compressed prior to transfer of file data. Alternatively, adjustments can be made as to whether or not the data are compressed prior to the transfer of the file data and as to the level of data compression.
