PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus that prevents contrast ratio from being deteriorated in a display image even if an F value in an optical system is reduced for obtaining a bright display image, can make compact and light the optical system, and is easily manufactured. SOLUTION: The image display apparatus comprises first to third reflection type polarizing plates 120, 121, 122 corresponding to respective reflection type space optical modulators 131, 132, 133 as an element for polarizing and separating incident light to the reflection type space optical modulators 131, 132, 133.
