PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic suspension device capable of easily obtaining the relative displacement in the axial direction irrespective of the lateral force applied to a damper (an expansion member). SOLUTION: A universal joint mechanism 35 movable in the radial direction with respect to a cylinder 4 (an outer tube 9) and capable of regulate the movement of the cylinder in the axial direction is provided on a center yoke 17 (a second cylindrical member). Since the movement of the center yoke 17 in the radial direction is permitted, the lateral force applied to a hydraulic damper 6 (an expansion member) hardly affects the movement (the oscillation) in the radial direction of the center yoke 17 even when the lateral force is applied to the cylinder 4. Therefore, a dry metal 25 on the center yoke side and a dry metal 29 on the piston rod side are not twisted, and smooth relative displacement in the axial direction of the center yoke 17 to an outer yoke 16 can be ensured thereby.
