<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording sheet which is free from the generation of fine cracks on the surface of an ink receiving layer and has appropriate surface glossiness and superb aqueous pigment ink absorbency without calendering process or casting process after applying the ink receiving layer. <P>SOLUTION: The ink jet recording sheet is manufactured by first forming the ink receiving layer containing at least a pigment and a binding agent on at least one surface of a support, then solidifying the ink receiving layer with the help of a solidifying liquid and drying/finishing the sheet.
