PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system by which an image photographed with a video camera is recorded by applying various kinds of image processing thereto and the recorded image can be searched at a high speed. SOLUTION: The monitoring system is composed of a processing apparatus 100, a monitoring video camera 120, a display device 121 and an input device 122. The processing apparatus 100 extracts a face picture or a motion picture from the image photographed by the monitoring video camera 120 and records the images with time information added thereto. Besides, on the basis of search request information with the time information as a key from the input device 122, the processing apparatus 100 carries out a image search and displays the face image or the motion image of the searched result on the display device 121.
