PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a play list file of auxiliary information managed in a large-capacity hierarchical structure by a simple operation. SOLUTION: This reproducing device is constituted so that in the case of reproducing from a recording medium 1 recording a menu file 4m and a play list file 4p as auxiliary information corresponding to a plurality of digital contents 3, when bits of descriptive information of the play list file 4p below a plurality of menu files 4b are sequentially displayed by a selection instructing means 13, the plurality of menu files are ignored, the bits of descriptive information of the lower play list only are sequentially displayed, and the digital contents recorded in the recording medium are reproduced and controlled according to reproduction sequence information recorded in the play lit file selected by the established selection.
