PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dielectric barrier discharge lamp lighting system having a simple lamp body structure, and easy to assemble; and to provide an ultraviolet irradiation device using it. SOLUTION: This dielectric barrier discharge lamp lighting system EU is provided with: the lamp body CB; and a dielectric barrier discharge lamp equipped with an airtight vessel 1 formed of an ultraviolet-ray transmitting material, formed into an elongated tubular shape, and having an exhaust chip-off part 1c disposed by projecting sideward in the vicinity of one end, an inside electrode 2 enclosed in the airtight vessel 1 along its axial direction, an excimer generation gas enclosed in the airtight vessel 1, and an outside electrode OE attached to the outside surface of the airtight vessel 1, and acting so as to generate dielectric barrier discharge in the airtight vessel 1 in cooperation with the internal electrode 2, exposing the chip-off part 1c of the airtight vessel 1 to the outside from one end of the lamp body CB and attached to the lamp body CB in a heat-conducting state.
