PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device having a high degree of whiteness for use in a backlight. SOLUTION: The organic EL device has an anode, an organic multilayer film, and a cathode, which are laminated in order on a transparent support. The cathode is a specular reflection film made of a metal, the organic multilayer film has at least a hole transport layer and an electron transport layer, and an anode of each pixel has a plurality of randomly different values in thickness so that the distances from a cathode reflection layer to a lighting point does not become constant.
