PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the execution of an application program in a client/server system in order to unify transfer between a client application and a server application in order to create an online application and a batch application with similar structures so as to facilitate the development and maintenance of the program. SOLUTION: The client of the client/server system, where the client directs the process of the server application to be executed, includes a step S11 for setting data to be delivered to the application as a telegram; a step S12 by which either the name of the application or the name of the identifier-equipped file of a JCL file setting the name of the application to be started is set in the telegram as the name of the application to be executed; and a step S13 for sending the set telegram to the server.
