POLYVINYL ALCOHOL WITH HIGH ISOTACTICITY AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with high isotacticity; and to provide a method for producing the PVA. SOLUTION: The PVA has≥34% isotacticity. The method for producing the PVA comprises subjecting a vinyl ester represented by general formula (III) (wherein, R5is an aryl group which may have one to several substituents) to radical polymerization in a hydrate of a fluorine-containing aldehyde or ketone represented by general formulas (I) or (II), and saponifying the product.
