A sandal (10) including a molded rubber outsole (20) configured to support a lower surface of a foot (40) including a heel (42), midfoot (44), and a forefoot (46); a toe cap (30) extending from the outsole (20) and configured to cover a top (52) of at least a portion of the forefoot (46), the toe cap (30) molded integrally with the outsole (20); and a plurality of sandal straps (60) fixed to the outsole (20) to retain the sandal (10) on the foot (40), at least one of the sandal straps (60) fixed to the toe cap (30). A mold for the production of an outsole (20) of a sandal (10) is disclosed, the mold comprising a bottom plate (510), and inner toe cap plate (540) and an outer toe cap plate (560). A method for the production of a molded outsole (20) is also disclosed.
