PURPOSE: Ruthenic acid nanosheet and a production method thereof, layered ruthenic acid compound, and an electrochemical device are provided. The ruthenic acid nanosheet has thickness of 1 nm or less, and improved charge accumulating activity, so that it can be useful as an electrode of the electrochemical element. CONSTITUTION: The ruthenic acid nanosheet having thickness of 1 nm or less is represented by formula (1) of (RuO2=0.5x)x-. The layered ruthenic acid compound is prepared by layering the ruthenic acid nanosheets, wherein the layered ruthenic acid compound has an X-ray diffraction peak intensity at each (00L) plane in X-ray diffraction diagram in which L is 1 to n when 0<=&thgr;(CuKα)<=90 degree, and n is determined by a basal interplanar space and satisfies 5<=n<=35. The electrochemical device has an electrode containing the ruthenic acid nanosheet. The method of producing the ruthenic acid nanosheet comprises the steps of: (a) mixing ruthenium oxide with an alkali metal compound, and sintering or melting the mixture to produce a layered alkaline metal-ruthenic acid compound containing the ruthenic acid nanosheet having thickness of 1 nm or less; (b) dipping the layered alkaline metal-ruthenic acid compound in an acidic solution to substitute at least part of alkali metal with a proton to produce a protonic layered ruthenic acid hydrate; (c) reacting the protonic layered ruthenic acid hydrate with alkylammonium or alkylamine to produce a layered alkylammonium-ruthenic acid intercalation compound; and (d) mixing the layered alkylammonium-ruthenic acid intercalation compound with solvent to produce a colloid containing the ruthenic acid nanosheet having thickness of 1 nm or less. |
