The clamping device for clamping work pieces comprises a box-shaped body (10), and an angularly movable clamping arm (12), operatively connected to an electric control actuator (13) by a toggle-lever mechanism (14) and an axially extensible thrust member (15). The toggle-lever mechanism (14) comprises a connecting link (18) having first and second link sections (18', 18") hinged on opposite sides of a crank member (16) of the clamping arm (12), and to a screw and nut mechanism of the thrust member (15). The screw (21) slides in an axial through bore (24) which extends along the thrust member and through a hole (25) in a hinge pin (20) which connects the thrust member to the sections of the connecting link (18', 18''). <IMAGE>
