An icosahedral, quasicrystalline compound, or compound in the form of approximant is new. The compound comprises 8-15 at.% oxygen, and 2-5 at.% aluminum. An icosahedral, quasicrystalline compound, or compound in the form of approximant of formula TivCrwAlxSiyOz is new. The compound comprises 8-15 at.% oxygen, and 2-5 at.% aluminum. v : 60-65; w : 25-30; x : 0-6; y : 8-15; z : 8-20. An independent claim is also included for manufacturing a compound by fusing the components in a cover gas or vacuum.
