Method for measuring the position of a magnet relative to a measurement location, whereby the magnetic field strength is measured for three orthogonal axes at at least two measurement points near to the measurement location. The measurement location lies in the middle of the two points. The magnetic field gradient is determined from the field strength measurements. An independent claim is made for a device for measuring the position of a magnet relative to a measurement location, comprising magnetic field sensors, an evaluation unit and a differentiator.
