ORGANIC ELECTROLUMINESCENCE DEVICE FUNCTIONING AS LC PANEL AND BACK LIGHT, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY EMPLOYING THE ORGANIC EL DEVICE

PURPOSE: A thin organic EL(Electro-Luminescence) device and a liquid crystal display employing the same are provided to extend the life span of the organic EL device without degrading an luminance by increasing the cooling effect. CONSTITUTION: An organic EL(Electro-Luminescence) device includes a semiconductor substrate(14,15) and an organic electroluminescence element arranged on or above the semiconductor substrate. A Peltier element(22) having a heat absorbing portion and a heat radiating portion is formed on at least a portion of the semiconductor substrate. The organic electroluminescence element is arranged so that heat resistance between the organic electroluminescence element and the heat absorbing portion is less than a heat resistance between the organic electroluminescence element and the heat radiating portion. A light emitted from the organic electroluminescence element is illuminated from an opposite side of the semiconductor substrate.
