摘要 PURPOSE: A lateral electric field applying type liquid crystal display, and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to reduce one mask process by removing a transparent conductive layer, and prevent damage of a substrate due to an etchant used for patterning a metal layer. CONSTITUTION: A substrate(145) is prepared. An anti-etching layer(143) is formed on the substrate. Gate lines are formed on the anti-etching layer. Common lines(116) are formed on the anti-etching layer in parallel with the gate lines. Data lines(104) cross the gate lines and the common lines for defining pixel regions. Thin film transistors are formed at cross points. Common electrodes(118) are formed at the pixel regions, connected with the common lines. Pixel electrodes(114) are connected with the thin film transistors, and are formed at the pixel regions for forming a lateral electric field with the common electrodes. The pixel electrodes are made of the same metal as drains electrodes(112). Gate pads(124) are formed of conductive layers, included in the gate lines. Data pads(130) are formed of conductive layers, included in the data lines. Common pads(136) are formed of conductive layers, included in the common lines. The gate pads, the data pads, and the common pads are made of a metal excellent in strength and corrosion resistance to prevent disconnection. A lower plate includes a passivation layer(152) exposing the gate pads, the data pads, and the common pads. An upper plate is bonded with the lower plate. A conductive film is connected with the exposed pads of the lower plate.
