PURPOSE: An auxiliary power unit installed in a radio modem unit is provided to supplement insufficient current. CONSTITUTION: A CPU(10) performs a communication protocol of a communication module. A memory RAM(11) stores information. A memory ROM(16) stores a program for controlling the CPU(10) and the communication module. A USB chip(14) is positioned between the CPU(10) and the USB port(2) to allow communication with a computer directly connected to the CPU(10). A microphone and ear jack(3) allows voice communication. An RF circuit(12) and an antenna(4) takes charge of communication with a base station so as to enable a high speed Internet, data and voice communication and short message transmission. A GPS module(9) includes an antenna used also for radio communication by installing a GPS chip in the RF circuit(12). A state display lamp(7) displays an internal state of a wireless modem. A power supply unit(13) supplies the power of the USB port(2) to the communication module to operate it. A battery(17) supplies auxiliary power. A charging circuit(17) charges the battery(17). A detachable cover protects the USB port(2) from dust, a foreign material or an impact.
