A valve <B>30</B> for controlling fluid flow in a passage defined by a first bore <B>37</B> and a second bore <B>38</B> opening into the first bore <B>37</B> via an aperture <B>4</B> wherein the valve <B>30</B> comprises a valve member <B>50</B> having a sealing portion <B>51</B> slidable in alignment with the first bore <B>37</B> to open or close the aperture <B>4</B>. The sealing portion <B>51</B> of the valve member <B>50</B> may be biased into its closed position by a helical spring <B>64</B>. The second bore <B>38</B> may be inclined at an angle of 45{ to the first bore <B>37</B>. The valve member <B>50</B> may include a plate member <B>62</B> for manual engagement which is slidably located in a channel in an outer surface of a housing of the valve <B>31</B>. A locking member, which may be a cap <B>70</B>, may be provided to prevent movement of the valve member <B>50</B>. The valve may be used to control suction in a tracheal catheter. A suction catheter assembly is also disclosed. |
