Valve and suction catheter assembly

A valve 30 for controlling fluid flow in a passage defined by a first bore 37 and a second bore 38 opening into the first bore 37 via an aperture 4 wherein the valve 30 comprises a valve member 50 having a sealing portion 51 slidable in alignment with the first bore 37 to open or close the aperture 4. The sealing portion 51 of the valve member 50 may be biased into its closed position by a helical spring 64. The second bore 38 may be inclined at an angle of 45{ to the first bore 37. The valve member 50 may include a plate member 62 for manual engagement which is slidably located in a channel in an outer surface of a housing of the valve 31. A locking member, which may be a cap 70, may be provided to prevent movement of the valve member 50. The valve may be used to control suction in a tracheal catheter. A suction catheter assembly is also disclosed.
