PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for demodulating a ground wave signal are provided to automatically search a modulation scheme of the ground wave signal transmitted from a cable broadcasting station and accurately demodulate the ground wave signal. CONSTITUTION: A demodulation control unit(60) receives a ground wave signal modulated by a digital modulation scheme according to at least one of a cable broadcasting station and a channel, discriminates a channel-classified digital modulation scheme, and stores the discriminated digital modulation scheme as modulation information. A modulation scheme recognition and demodulation unit(62) recognizes a digital modulation scheme with respect to a channel selected by a user using modulation information read from the demodulation control unit, and demodulates the modulated ground signal with respect to the selected channel by a digital demodulation scheme corresponding to the recognized digital modulation scheme.
