PURPOSE: An imaging device having a developing gap detection function and a control method thereof are provided to improve printing quality by accurately detecting a developing gap between a photosensitive medium and a developing roller at low cost and adaptively determining a developing voltage according to the detected developing gap. CONSTITUTION: A developing roller(125) develops an electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive medium using a developer. A power supply unit(150) supplies a certain voltage to the developing roller. When the electrostatic latent image is developed by the developer, a current detecting unit(165) detects current which flows in the developing roller. A control unit(190) calculates a developing gap between the developing roller and the photosensitive medium on the basis of the current value detected by the current detecting unit. The control unit controls a transfer work for transferring a toner image formed by a developing work performed for detecting the developing gap to a supplied recording paper.
