<p>Apparatus for the reliable measurement of the concentration and the motility light scattering particles, particularly of sperm in a micro-sample of semen, consists of two coherent beams of light (2,3), illuminating the same light scattering region (1) within the sample, and two photodetection systems (4,5), both observing the same light scattering region (1). The electrical signals (11,12) of the photodetectors (4,5) are cross-correlated (14), which suppresses the influence of multiply scattered light. The cross-correlation signal is analysed for different velocity components of the scattering particles, resulting in measures for the concentrations of motile and immotile sperm, as well as in information about the velocity distribution of motile sperm. <IMAGE></p> |
