1,237,139. Self-seating valve. GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO. 23 Sept., 1968 [16 Oct., 1967], No. 45153/68. Heading F2V. A self-sealing valve comprising a cylindrical conduit 26 disposed at right angles to a cylindrical chamber 20 includes an elastomeric sleeve 52, normally of cylindrical form, deformed to provide a seal at the end 28 of the conduit 26. The pressure of incoming fluid in conduit 26 forces the sleeve 52 further to deform away from the end 28 to allow fluid access to the chamber 20. When the chamber 12 is filled to the desired pressure, the flow is stopped by the valve returning to a sealing position under the pressure of fluid in the chamber 20. The chamber 20 may be depressurized by inserting a rigid member (60) in along conduit 26 to unseat the sleeve 52. Where air is the pressurizing fluid, the sleeve 52 is made of neoprene.
|
