The device has a power supply (AL) associated to a battery of a vehicle. A display unit is situated at the rear of the vehicle to be viewed from outside. The display unit is associated to a speed sensor (C3), electronic processing circuits (MS, MD, CO, RI, UC) and the power supply in a manner so as to indicate instantaneous speed amplitude and a variation of a speed and/or stop distance. The power supply supplies power to the electronic processing circuits and the speed sensor.
