Polycarboxylic acids (I) are used as agents for complexing metal cations in oxidizing compositions for bleaching, dyeing or permanent deformation of keratinic fibers. Polycarboxylic acids of formula (I) are used as agents for complexing metal cations in oxidizing compositions for bleaching, dyeing or permanent deformation of keratinic fibers: RN(CH(R')COOX)2 (I) R = H, CH(COOX)-(CH2)2COOX, CH(Me)COOX or (CH2)2N(OCORasterisk)CH2COOX; Rasterisk = 1-30C alkyl or 3-30C cyclic; R' = CH2COOX if R is H, or H if R is not H; X = H, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, transition metal, organic ammonium or NH4. Independent claims are also included for: (1) oxidizing composition for bleaching, dyeing or permanent deformation of keratinic fibers, comprising an oxidizing agent and a compound (I), provided that (I) is not methylglycine diacetic acid when the oxidizing agent is sodium perborate; (2) bleaching keratinic fibers by applying an oxidizing composition as above, leaving the composition on the fibers until the required bleaching is obtained, rinsing the fibers, and washing and optionally drying the fibers, or permanent deformation of keratinic fibers by applying a reducing composition, leaving the composition on the fibers until the required deformation is obtained, optionally rinsing the fibers, applying an oxidizing composition as above, leaving the composition on the fibers until the required fixing of deformation is obtained, rinsing the fibers, and washing and optionally drying the fibers; (3) dyeing keratinic fibers by applying a dye composition, developing the color with an oxidizing composition as above, and rinsing the fibers with water; (4) dyeing keratinic fibers by mixing a dye composition with an oxidizing composition as above, applying the mixture to the fibers, leaving the mixture on the fibers until the required color is obtained, and rinsing the fibers with water; (5) kit for dyeing keratinic fibers, comprising a dye composition and an oxidizing composition as above; (6) kit for bleaching keratinic fibers, comprising at least two compositions for mixing to prepare an oxidizing composition as above; (7) kit for permanent deformation of keratinic fibers, comprising an oxidizing composition as above and a reducing composition.
