The method involves reading a matrix of cells and location of reference stars and calculating estimated positions of the stars. Size of window surrounding the estimated positions is calculated according to a maximum passing speed. Additional stars are searched by reading bands of lines at each time. Positions of the additional stars are determined on a sensor by following the reference stars. An independent claim is also included for a cartographic device for mapping stars.
