PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder comprising an ink depletion indicating means through which a user can specify an ink ended cartridge immediately at a low cost without causing any damage on the external view of the ink jet recorder. SOLUTION: A color filter panel 6 is formed at a position passing between a lens 321 and an LED indication lamp 35 through reciprocal operation of a carriage 61. When the LED indication lamp 35 is lighted under a state stopping between the lens 321 and the LED indication lamp 35, light from the LED indication lamp 35 passes through any one color filter facing the LED indication lamp 35 and reaches the lens 321 with the color of that color filter. It is spread from an ink depletion indicating part 32 to the outside of the ink jet recorder 50 by means of the lens 321 and the color of the color filter is indicated at the ink depletion indicating part 32.
