PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map information system 300 capable of updating map information stored in a map information use terminal 200 in optimum timing. SOLUTION: The map information system 300 comprises a map information server 100 having a first map information storage part 103, a first communication part 102, and a control part 101 and the map information use terminal 200 having a second communication part 202, a second map information storage part 203, and a map information update part 201. When the map information use terminal 200 updates map information, the map information server 100 transmits next update day and time information and the map information use terminal 200 updates next map information according to the transmitted next update day and time information to update the map information stored in the map information use terminal 200 in optimum timing, so neither unnecessary communication charge nor energy for communication is consumed and no unnecessary load is placed on the map information server 100.
