A class of 3-phenylimidazolo[1,2-a]pyrimidine derivatives, substituted at the meta position of the phenyl ring by a directly attached, optionally halo- and/or cyano-substituted aryl or heteroaryl group, and further substituted on the phenyl ring by one or two fluorine atoms, are selective ligands for GABAA receptors, in particular have good affinity for the alpha2 and/or alpha3, and/or alpha5 subunit thereof, and are accordingly of benefit in the treatment and/or prevention of adverse conditions of the central nervous system, including anxiety, convulsions and cognitive disorders. 29 claims
