摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for accelerating the activation of a catalyst effective in reducing the discharge of NOx and PM while suppressing the degradation of heat efficiency (fuel consumption) with simple constitution without using a complicated mechanism in a cylinder injection compression-ignition type engine. <P>SOLUTION: This cylinder injection compression-ignition type engine is provided with a plurality of intake valves 15a, 15b for each cylinder; intake ports 17a, 17b and intake manifolds 18a, 18b by systems corresponding to the intake valves 15a, 15b; branch passages 20a, 20b for connecting an upstream side intake passage 19 respectively to the respective manifolds 18a, 18b; an intake cut-off valve 21 for opening/closing at least one of the branch passages 20a, 20b; and an EGR device 13 for connecting an outlet part of an EGR passage 36 to the intake manifold 18a of the system without the intake cut-off valve 21 interposed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
