<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device which is constructed in such a way that improvement in color reproducibility and color uniformity of a liquid crystal cell are connected to final lowering of variations in display color and color unevenness of the liquid crystal device and which has high display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 200 has the liquid crystal cell equipped with a liquid crystal layer LC and electrodes to apply an electric field to the liquid crystal layer and an illuminating means 230. The illuminating means 230 is equipped with a light emitting element 231 which emits light with an emission spectrum tilted toward white light in a visible ray region and a light guide plate 232 to guide light to the liquid crystal cell. The liquid crystal device is equipped with a color converting means 227 to convert color of at least a part of illuminating light illuminated from the light guide plate so as to bring the color of the illuminating light close to white light and a color filter consisting of arrayed filter elements 223 with multiple colors. In the color filter, the filter element with the highest luminous transmittance toward the illuminating light out of the filter elements 223 with multiple colors is constructed with no filter material, and further, an action of the color converting means to light illuminating the filter element is eliminated or reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
