<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) polymer emulsion suitable for use in heat seal applications. <P>SOLUTION: The EVA polymer is produced by a process under a relatively low pressure, i.e. less than 2,000 psig, preferably about 1,000-2,000 psig. The aqueous EVA-based polymer emulsion comprises crystalline parts resulting from ethylene linkages and is produced by emulsion polymerization of ethylene and vinyl acetate preferably with a carboxylic acid monomer in the presence of a stabilizing system containing a surfactant or a cellulose protective colloid in combination with a surfactant. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
