PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform smooth heating operation even when an outdoor heat exchanger is covered with frost. SOLUTION: This air-conditioner comprises a wax element valve 8 provided in a hot gas bypass duct 7 connecting a compressor 1 to the outdoor heat exchanger 3 and adapted to be opened/closed while controlling a flow rate according to the temperature of refrigerant. When the outdoor heat exchanger 3 is covered with frost, wax filled in the wax element valve 12 is cooled by the refrigerant and contracted to open the wax element valve 8. Thus, the high-temperature and high-pressure refrigerant flows into the outdoor heat exchanger 3 via the hot gas bypass duct 7 for removing the frost, and the flow rate of the high-temperature and high-pressure refrigerant is continuously changed for preventing the occurrence of disturbance due to the opening/closing of the valve and the generation of vibration or noise along therewith.
