PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a method for manufacturing a water-absorptive resin, with a low energy, which involves a reverse-phase suspension polymerization step and a subsequent drying step; and a drying device used in the method. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a water-absorptive resin involves a polymerization step for producing a water-absorptive resin by a reverse-phase suspension polymerization technique and a drying step for drying the water-absorptive resin obtained in the polymerization step. In the drying step, a drying device X1 is used which is provided with an end wall 21, an end wall 22 opposed to it, a peripheral wall 23 and a rotating shaft part 24 that extend between these end walls, an agitating means 25 provided on the rotating shaft part 24, serving to agitate the water-absorptive resin while conveying the resin in the direction from the end wall 21 to the end wall 22, and an agitating means 26 provided on the rotating shaft part 24, severing to agitate the resin while conveying it in the direction from the end wall 22 to the end wall 21.
