<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera by which an optimal light emission quantity of a stroboscope can be accurately found. <P>SOLUTION: A CCD imager 18 includes a plurality of photodetectors for generating electric charges corresponding to an optical image of a field, and vertical and horizontal transfer registers for transferring the generated charges. A CPU 44 selects a charge transfer mode in which a degree of mixture of charges is low as a distance to an object is short. In relation to the light emission of a stroboscope 50, the charges generated by the CCD imager 18 are read out of the CCD imager 18 according to the selected charge transfer mode. The optimal light emission quantity of the stroboscope 50 is calculated on the basis of thus read charges.
