PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode substrate which is used for an active matrix type liquid crystal display device, with excellent electrical characteristics by suppressing a decrease in the mobility or dispersion of a threshold or the like, even if a gate electrode is formed on a grain boundary on a polycrystalline thin film functioning as an active layer of a TFT. SOLUTION: The gate electrode 12 composing the TFT is made into a flat and non-linear shape and is placed on the polycrystalline thin film 3, so that either one of the ends of the gate electrode does not overlap with the grain boundary.
