PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a color image and to perform monochromatic image formation such as black more quickly than color image formation. SOLUTION: Image forming units 31, 32, 33 for three colors are arranged along a circulation path of an intermediate transfer belt 30, the color image is formed by a tandem system and transferred on printing paper. On the printing paper, a monochrome image forming unit 28 transfers a monochrome toner image with black toner, and color and monochrome toner images are fixed by simultaneously being heated and pressurized by a fixing unit 29. In an operation mode for forming only the monochrome image, the intermediate transfer belt 30 is displaced so that it is detached from a feeding path of the printing paper by an actuator 39.
