PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for limiting an output of an electric power steering device for limiting an output of a motor based on a temperature detected by a temperature sensor or a temperature estimated by a temperature estimating means by estimating a temperature of the device in a non-complicated system at a low cost. SOLUTION: In this method for limiting the output of the electric power steering device 10, the output of the motor is limited by the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 27 mounted on a part of the electric power steering device 10. By detecting current flowing in the motor 20, the temperature of the power steering device 10 is estimated. The output of the motor 20 is limited based on the higher one of the estimated temperature Tm and a virtual temperature Timag obtained from the detected temperature of the temperature sensor 27.
