ROAD SHAPE RECOGNITION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road shape recognition device which detects the shape of a road with high precision. SOLUTION: The road shape recognition device is provided with its own vehicle position detecting means 101 which detects the position of its own vehicle; a road information storing means 102 which stores at least the shape of the road as the assemblage of dot data and information on limited speed for the road; a road shape acquiring means 103 which acquires the dot data on the shape of the road in the advancing direction of its own vehicle by a fixed distance based on the position of its own vehicle detected by the own vehicle position detecting means; and a road curvature computing means 104 which computes the radius of the curvature Rn of the road in the above range based on the dot data on the shape of the road within the range acquired by the road shape acquiring means. Further, the road shape recognition device is provided with a radius of curvature range determining means 105 which determines effective radius of curvature range Rmin and Rmax based on the information on the limited speed determined in the range and a radius of curvature correcting means 106 which corrects the radius of curvature computed by using the information on the shapes in front of and in the back of the range.
