PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct-injection internal combustion engine having a pent-roof type combustion chamber, in which exhaust emission performance and engine output are improved by restraining decrease in a compression ratio and fuel diffusion, and improving mixing of fuel and air, or atomization of the fuel. SOLUTION: The direct-injection internal combustion engine having a pent-roof type combustion chamber is provided with a piston 3 having a top face 3a with a rise part 11 extending to the ceiling wall of the combustion chamber. The rise part 11 includes a recess 12, a projection part 13, and a receiving part 14 for receiving a jet from a fuel injection valve. In the receiving part 14, a recess 12 and a projection 13 are included. The rise part 11 further includes valve recesses 15-18, and guide parts 21, 22 for guiding fuel in the recess 12 to respective valve recess 15-18. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
