PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traverse device for a wire rod for accurately and stably traversing a cable regardless of switching of normal rotation/reverse rotation of a cable reel in the cable reel for rotating so as to deliver the towing cable when an advancing-retreating traveling body advances, and roll up the towing cable when the traveling body retreats while towing the cable. SOLUTION: This traverse device for the wire rod has a rotary shaft, a slide unit for reciprocating on the rotary shaft, and a reversal switching lever. This traverse device is constituted so that a switching stopper is respectively arranged on both sides of the rotary shaft for switching the reversal switching lever arranged in the slide unit, and a stopper moving means is arranged for rocking the switching stopper according to switching of the normal/reverse rotation of the rotary shaft.
