PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a training device and a method for controlling the training device capable of performing a motion for increasing the muscle strength of the legs and also performing a training motion for the gripping force. SOLUTION: This training device comprises a general stamina training means 101 for training general stamina; a gripping force training means 102 for training gripping force; a control means 104 for controlling either one or both of the general stamina training means 101 and the gripping force training means 102 in response to either one or both of information got from the general stamina training means 101 and the gripping force training means 102; and a display means 105 for displaying information got from the control means 104.
