PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyether having a narrow molecular weight distribution, a low viscosity and a high molecular weight in high productivity. SOLUTION: The ring-opening polymerization of an alkylene oxide (AO) is carried out by a batch polymerization method in the presence of a composite metal cyanide complex catalyst and an initiator. The polymerization is performed by keeping the polymerization temperature to≥115°C under a condition to satisfy the formulas a/c=0.05 to 0.40, b/c=0.01 to 0.20 and a/b=1.2 to 6.0 wherein (a) is the average feeding rate (kg/hr) of AO during the period to feed 30 mass% to 70 mass% AO based on the total feeding amount of AO; (b) is the average feeding rate (kg/hr) of AO during the period to feed 70 mass% to 100 mass% AO based on the total feeding amount of AO; and (c) is the total production quantity (kg) of the polyether.
