Partial band coding of digital video images uses different levels of filter resolution for high quality

The partial band coding of a sequence of digital images [0-7] relating to groups of pictures has the images fed to filters [R1-R3] . the filters are arranged in planes with different resolutions. The images are received by high pass filters providing motion compensation [MC] and producing high pass images [H]. Other stages provide low pass images [L,LL].
