PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily assemble a staircase without using heavy equipment etc. or a special fixture, and to shorten a construction period for replacement/repair in alteration by facilitating disassembling. SOLUTION: A U-shaped cross-section coupling member 1 is composed of a vertical plate part 2 and upper and lower flanges 5 and 7; through-holes 10 are drilled on the end side (the side of a nosing) of the lower flange 7 at intervals; and the through-holes 9 are drilled on the base end side (the other side of the nosing) of the upper flanges 5 at the same intervals. A reinforcing rib 12 with a protrusion 13 for mounting a handrail is welded for fixation to a recessed side surface 4 of the coupling member 1. A reinforcing rib 12A, which is positioned in the center, is located in the center of a through-hole 9A at the leading end of the upper flange 5 and that of a through-hole 10A on the side of the leading base end of the lower flange 7. A footstep unit 20 is constituted by sandwich-welding a tread 16 to the coupling member 1 whose protrusive side surfaces 3 face each other. The footstep units 20 are stacked by being displaced in a staircase pattern, and fixed via the through-holes 9 and 10, communicating with each other in upper and lower position, by means of a bolt, so that the staircase can be assembled.
