PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device capable of securely obtaining a clear image for characters and figures indicated on paper etc. SOLUTION: A portable electronic device 1 comprises a lid section 2 and a control section 3 folded up by facing inside surfaces 2a and 3a each other; a pivotally supporting section 9 for rotatably supporting the lid section 2 in relation to the control section 3 about a rotation axis nearly orthogonal to the extension direction of a hinge section 4; and an imaging unit 8 arranged at an outer surface 2b of the lid section 2. When the control section 3 is placed on a predetermined flat plane F so that the outer surface 2b of the lid section 2 become downward, under at least one of two intersection status in which the lid section 2 and the control section 3 intersect each other in nearly orthogonal way by rotation of the lid section 2 using pivotally supporting section 9, a distance Dr between the flat plane F and the imaging unit 8 coincide with a focal length Df of the imaging unit 8 substantially.
