PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid catalyst component and a catalyst for olefin polymerization which give a polymer containing a small amount of a fine powder while retaining the stereoregularity and the yield of the polymer at a high level. SOLUTION: The solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization is obtained by reacting metal magnesium with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst to form solid matter, contacting the solid matter with a surfactant to prepare a dialkoxymagnesium (a), contacting the dialkoxymagnesium (a) with a tetravalent titanium halide compound (b) and an electron-donating compound (c) to form a solid product, and subsequently contacting the solid product with the surfactant. The catalyst for olefin polymerization comprises the solid catalyst component, an organic aluminum compound, and an external electron-donating compound. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
